Oxymetholone (Anadrol): A Tracking Guide for a Potent Oral

Oxymetholone, sold as Anadrol, is one of the most potent oral anabolic steroids. It produces large, rapid gains in mass and strength and a strong rise in red blood cell production - the latter is the basis for its legitimate medical use in certain anaemias. It is 17-alpha-alkylated and notably hard on the liver, raises blood pressure, and carries a confusing mix of estrogenic and progestogenic-style side effects despite not aromatising in the usual way.

What it does

• Very large, fast mass and strength gains, much of it water
• Strongly stimulates red blood cell production (its medical basis)

What to track daily

• Nipple changes (gynecomastia warning)
• Appetite (often suppressed, which is unusual), nausea
• Liver flags (dark urine, RUQ pain, yellowing)

What to track weekly

• Blood pressure (a top priority here)
• Bodyweight (heavy water component)
• Strength
• Waist and visible bloat

Bloodwork worth doing

• Baseline: liver panel, lipid panel, full blood count with haematocrit, testosterone, kidney panel, blood pressure
• During (week 2) and after: repeat
• Liver enzymes, haematocrit, lipids, and blood pressure all need watching; this compound moves several markers hard

Realistic expectations

• Dramatic scale weight quickly, a large fraction water that leaves on cessation
• Side-effect load is high: blood pressure, liver, bloating, sometimes appetite loss and nausea
• Short cycles are standard because the liver and cardiovascular load is significant

Common mistakes

• Long cycles compounding liver and blood-pressure stress
• Ignoring blood pressure and rising haematocrit
• Mistaking water weight for muscle
• No baseline labs; alcohol or other hepatotoxic compounds alongside

• On: daily logs, weekly BP, labs around week 2, short cycle
• Post: recheck liver, lipids, blood count, hormones; expect water to drop

Safety notes

High liver strain, significant blood-pressure elevation, raised haematocrit, estrogenic and progestogenic-style side effects including gynecomastia risk, and strong HPTA suppression. Has a legitimate anaemia indication, but non-medical doses are a different matter. Prescription-only; short cycles with close monitoring under a physician are essential.
